Solid Ambrosia Maple End Table – Scandinavian Minimalist Handcrafted Side Table

I designed this end table to highlight the quiet beauty of Ambrosia maple — the soft lines, the warm caramel tones, and the dramatic figuring that only shows up in a tree that’s lived a full life. This particular piece started with a log that was removed due to disease and milled locally. I held onto the boards for years, waiting for the right design to bring out their character.

The form itself is simple and intentional, inspired by Scandinavian and mid‑century principles: clean lines, balanced proportions, and a lightweight feel. The legs are built with splined miter joints, which keep the silhouette crisp while adding strength where it matters. It’s a small detail, but one that keeps the piece feeling refined from every angle.

I build each table by hand in my Trumbull, CT shop, shaping and finishing every surface until the wood feels as good as it looks. Because every board of Ambrosia maple is unique, each table carries its own pattern and personality — no two pieces are ever the same. I have enough of this particular maple to make only a few more, and each one will be just as distinct.

This table works equally well beside a sofa, next to a reading chair, or as a minimalist bedside companion. If you need a different size or want this design in another species like walnut, oak, ash, or cherry, I’m happy to customize it.
