A Design Practice

Fahr Fine Furnishing is a furniture design studio rooted in problem solving.
Furniture interests me because it sits at the intersection of utility, engineering, and art. I approach each project as a design problem to be explored through drawing, prototyping, and making. The goal is not decoration, but clarity—creating pieces that feel purposeful, resolved, and lasting.

Learning Forward

I’m drawn to designers like Hans Wegner, Finn Juhl, and Charles and Ray Eames not for how their work looks, but for how it was developed. They understood furniture deeply, then used that understanding to push it forward.

That balance matters to me. Traditional furniture mechanics (wood movement, joinery, proportion, structure) aren’t limitations. They’re the foundation that allows new ideas to hold up in the real world.

The goal isn’t reinvention. It’s contribution.

Design Through Making

Design is resolved through making.

Sketches and ideas set direction, but furniture only reveals itself when it’s built. Weight, balance, movement, and comfort can’t be fully predicted. They have to be tested.

Working at the bench keeps decisions grounded. It’s where designs are refined, simplified, and clarified until nothing feels added or unresolved.

Chair Back Detail - Clean Background

Every piece begins as a design problem. Making is how I find the answer.

Studio

Each piece is built to order in my Connecticut studio. I work with a small number of clients, collectors, and design professionals at a time to ensure every project receives the attention it deserves. Whether you are interested in acquiring a piece, discussing a commission, or exploring a collaboration, I welcome the conversation.
