Foundry Table
The Foundry Table is a study in material character.
The design begins with Ambrosia maple, its irregular figuring, warm caramel tones, and natural variation. Rather than trying to control or soften those qualities, the table is designed to hold them quietly, allowing the wood to remain the primary voice.
The form is intentionally restrained. Clean lines and balanced proportions draw from Scandinavian and mid‑century principles, creating a structure that feels light and composed without becoming decorative. The simplicity of the silhouette gives the material space to speak.
The legs are joined using splined miter joints, chosen for both clarity and strength. The detail remains subtle, but it plays an important role: maintaining crisp geometry while reinforcing the structure where forces converge. It’s a quiet solution, visible only to those who look closely.
This series is built from Ambrosia maple sourced from a single locally milled tree, removed due to disease and allowed to season naturally over time. The boards were held until a design emerged that could carry their character without excess. Because no two boards are alike, each table expresses the material differently—variation is not a flaw here, but the point.
Built by hand in the studio, each surface is shaped and finished to retain the tactile quality of the wood. The finish protects without obscuring, allowing the table to age naturally through use.
Foundry works comfortably beside a sofa, reading chair, or bed. It is modest in scale but considered in presence—a supporting object that adds warmth without drawing attention away from the space around it.
